IBM, Microsoft and Oracle Increasingly Challenging Traditional ECM Vendors
This week’s First Thing Monday newsletter from AMR includes an interesting article that evaluates the state of enterprise content management. In brief, more of them are generating revenue from their installed base, rather than the signing of new clients. For many, a larger percentage of their revenue is coming from services, rather than license sales.
According to the article, Interwoven picked up new clients, while Vignette had a bad quarter, and announced lay-offs and a restructure of the its sales management.
Most interesting is the observation that traditional ECM companies are increasingly bumping into IBM, with Microsoft and Oracle not far behind. Companies increasing seek to combine back end information and data while simultaneously expanding publishing rights liberally through the organization.
Bottom Line: This confluence mandates that companies implement methods to ensure compliance with publishing standards, and verify that individuals are not publishing sensitive or inappropriate information.
